If you have a basic understanding of how electronics work then you will know how to get most of your battery. first let me clear two myths about battery life.
Battery save/increase apps: these apps are completely useless, it will only add more load on your battery especially when it is kept running like a service.
Charge cycle: in short words: don't ever do it. it will only lower your battery life, charge cycles exhaust your battery. you should never completely drain your battery on purpose unless you absolutely have to like when you don't have your charger. Li-ion batteries doesn't have memory effect so RERO (that's Recharge early, Recharge often).
Kindle Fire is just like a tiny computer which have a processor, memory, main-board, storage, etc. powering these devices with the least amount of power is the never-ending problem of optimization. the operating system plays a crucial role of controlling & running the devices. so what can you do as user to help lower power consumption?

- Always trim unused apps: they use storage space and may run in the background so get rid of what you don't actively use, you can always get it back if you want from the Store.
- Turn Wi-Fi off when not using it (this tip is pretty useless if you use the web all the time but for the ebook reader person, this will save their power).
- Decrease screen brightness: this is like a lamp, a 120W lamp will consume much power than a modest 20W lamp. you should increase brightness when you are using your Kindle Fire in the daylight.
- Don't let the battery run out RERO.
- Quit apps after using them: make sure you exit the apps after you are finished.
- Use headphones for sound: external speakers consumes more power than your headphones/earbuds.
- Don't overheat: that tip goes for any electronic device, keep your electronics cool.
