root is the superuser in Linux operating systems and since Android is also a Linux based operating system, it is the superuser in Android. Superuser means that it has complete control over the system files, memory, etc. root user allows you to make changes that are otherwise denied using the normal (regular) user. This is the way you should use your computer (well, it applies to all devices as it is a good security practice) and only use root when you need to make changes to your system to prevent accidental damages to your system. root in the context of Kindle Fire also means that you are stuck with Amazon's Apps and way of accomplishing tasks. some people are satisfied with the default stock and that's okay, not everyone feels adventurous to try rooting & custom roms.
What is stock Kindle Fire?
Stock is the default operating system for Kindle Fire without being rooted & without any modifications to the default Apps & so on.
Stock also means that you cannot use Google Play.

Sometimes, the Kindle Fire gets stuck on the boot screen animation logo, there are various reasons why it would freeze like that, if your Kindle Fire is still vanilla (e.g. you haven't rooted it), it probably just needs a hard reset.

Increase battery life
If you have a basic understanding of how electronics work then you will know how to get most of your battery. first let me clear two myths about battery life.
Battery save/increase apps: these apps are completely useless, it will only add more load on your battery especially when it is kept running like a service.
Charge cycle: in short words: don't ever do it. it will only lower your battery life, charge cycles exhaust your battery. you should never completely drain your battery on purpose unless you absolutely have to like when you don't have your charger. Li-ion batteries doesn't have memory effect so RERO (that's Recharge early, Recharge often).
Kindle Fire is just like a tiny computer which have a processor, memory, main-board, storage, etc. powering these devices with the least amount of power is the never-ending problem of optimization. the operating system plays a crucial role of controlling & running the devices. so what can you do as user to help lower power consumption?

- Always trim unused apps: they use storage space and may run in the background so get rid of what you don't actively use, you can always get it back if you want from the Store.
- Turn Wi-Fi off when not using it (this tip is pretty useless if you use the web all the time but for the ebook reader person, this will save their power).
- Decrease screen brightness: this is like a lamp, a 120W lamp will consume much power than a modest 20W lamp. you should increase brightness when you are using your Kindle Fire in the daylight.
- Don't let the battery run out RERO.
- Quit apps after using them: make sure you exit the apps after you are finished.
- Use headphones for sound: external speakers consumes more power than your headphones/earbuds.
- Don't overheat: that tip goes for any electronic device, keep your electronics cool.
Play your own videos on Kindle Fire
The Kindle Fire supports playing streaming videos through it's store just fine but what if you want to play a video file you have on your computer? well, you can if you convert it to MP4 which is the supported codec by the video player. after you copy your file, you will find it in the Gallery tab, not videos tab.
You can use Miro or Super or any video converter you can get. Here is how to use Miro to convert the video.
